A striking ram's head cartouche, hand cast from an original in our workshop archive.
The ram's head — deeply modelled with curled horns and a wonderfully characterful face — surmounts a strapwork shield framing a beaded oval, flanked by scrolled straps with Greek key ends. The ram is one of the oldest motifs in classical ornament, from the sacrificial ram's heads of Roman altars to the ram-headed paterae of the Adam brothers, and this is a particularly confident Victorian rendering of the tradition.
The blank beaded oval is an invitation: leave it plain, or have it carry a monogram, date or device — ask us about bespoke additions.
Use above a doorway, on a chimney breast, as the centrepiece of a panel scheme, or paired flanking an entrance.
